Currency Gain/Loss Calculator
Accounts in more than one currency? Enter each balance on two dates and see how much of the change you saved and how much the exchange rate added or took away.
The currency you spend in. Every balance is converted into it.
Where the change came from
Enter at least one balance to see the split.
Saved = (end balance − start balance) × end rate. Exchange rate effect = start balance × (end rate − start rate). The two always add up to the change.
Your balances stay in this browser and are not saved. To fetch rates, only the dates and currency codes go to our server, which asks the ECB. Reference rates are for information; a bank would give you slightly less.
How to use the split
- Pick the currency you spend in and keep it. Switching it later changes the sign of the exchange rate part, not your wealth.
- Use one rate source for both dates. ECB rates are filled in; if you track with your central bank's rate, type it over the ECB one on both dates.
- Read the two numbers separately. The saved part is your habit; the exchange rate part is real today but can reverse next month.
