Multi-currency net worth tracker

A multi-currency net worth tracker that shows what the exchange rate did

If part of your money is in another currency, your net worth moves even in a month you save nothing. Volora keeps each account in its own currency, adds everything up in your main currency, and shows the gain or loss the exchange rate has made on the foreign money you hold. It all stays on your phone, with no bank connection.

  • Free to download
  • Any currency, crypto included
  • Works offline
  • No bank connection

How to track net worth across currencies

Four steps, whether you use Volora, a spreadsheet or a notebook.

  1. Keep each account in its own currency

Write a euro account down in euros and a dollar account in dollars. If you convert when you record it, you can't see what the rate does later.

  2. Convert everything on one day, from one source

Pick one main currency for the total and convert every account on the same date with the same source, such as the ECB reference rates. Use your bank's rate for one account and a reference rate for another, and the total drifts for no reason.

  3. Know your average purchase rate

If you bought the currency in several goes, divide what you paid in your home currency by the amount you got. That average is the line between a currency gain and a loss.

Work out your average purchase rate
  4. Separate saving from the exchange rate

When the total changes, part of it is money you put aside and part is the rate moving. Split the two and you know whether you actually saved.

How Volora handles more than one currency

Every account is a wallet, and every wallet has its own currency.

Each wallet in its own currency

Euro savings, dollar cash, a pound account and a Bitcoin wallet can sit side by side. Each balance shows in the wallet's currency and in your main currency.

One total, in the currency you choose

Net worth adds up in your main currency. On the Total Wealth page you can switch the total to your home currency as well.

The rate you actually got

A transfer between two currencies records the exchange rate you got and the fee you paid, and every transaction keeps the rate of its own day.

Average purchase rate per currency

For every foreign-currency wallet, Volora keeps the weighted average of the rates you bought at, in your home currency. It updates as money comes in.

FX Intelligence in Insights

See the gain or loss the exchange rate has made on the foreign money you hold, what share of your net worth that is, and a breakdown by currency. A chart per currency plots the rates you got, your average cost and today's rate.

Rates for every currency

Currency rates come from the European Central Bank and crypto prices from public market feeds. They refresh every 30 days on the free plan and daily on Premium. For a currency no feed covers, add a custom currency with your own rate.

Private by design

Volora is built so that we can't see your finances, even if we wanted to.

  • Your data stays on your device. Personal spaces never leave it.
  • Encrypted backups and shared spaces go through your own Google Drive, not our servers.
  • You can use the whole app before creating an account.
  • "Hide amounts" hides your balances on screen whenever you want.

What Volora doesn't do

Better to know now than after you've set it up.

  • It doesn't connect to your bank or broker. You add transactions, import a CSV file or adjust a balance yourself.
  • Wallets are converted at reference rates, not your bank's. When you exchange money, enter the rate you actually got on the transfer.
  • It isn't a tax tool. It doesn't work out tax on currency gains, and its figures aren't a tax statement.

Questions about net worth in more than one currency

Which currency should my total be in?

The one you spend most of your money in, or will spend it in later. In Volora that is the main currency, and on the Total Wealth page you can switch the total to your home currency too. Whichever you pick, stick with it so the months stay comparable.

Which exchange rates does Volora use?

European Central Bank reference rates for regular currencies and market prices for crypto. They refresh every 30 days on the free plan and daily on Premium, where you can also refresh them on demand. Transfers between your own wallets use the rate you enter.

Is a currency gain real money?

Not until you spend the money or change it back. Until then it's a gain on paper: what your foreign money is worth in your home currency today compared with what you paid for it. Next month the rate can take it back.

What about a loan or mortgage in a foreign currency?

Add it as a loan or mortgage wallet in its own currency. It counts as a debt, so when that currency gets stronger, your debt grows in your main currency and your net worth shows it.

Is it free?

Yes. Wallets in any currency, the Total Wealth page and the FX Intelligence card in Insights are all in the free version. Premium refreshes rates daily and on demand, and adds extras such as owning shared spaces.

Where is my data stored?

On your phone. If you sign in, backups go to your own Google Drive, and shared spaces sync through it. We have no access to your data.
